"Jungle Monkeys” is a 50 minute long electro-acoustic piece that takes you on a Shamanic quest back into the remote past of what we now know as the human race and asks the question of what we may become in the not too distant future. A shaman is a conscious being who is able to disengage itself from a limited perspective that is forced upon it through a life long identification with a particular human body. The process of disengagement is the quest of the hero, the delving into the darkest regions of consciousness, the Land of the Dead. The shaman returns modified, never to be the same and bearing gifts. Where we stand, given our “normal” state of consciousness, we are able to see only a little bit into the past and into the present. Even things that happened within the lifetime of the body we now inhabit seem strange and remote. But the true history of consciousness is of such a great scale, that we have to make the effort to travel beyond our normal boundaries into that dark land, the raw darkness of the void that waits beyond our consensual hallucination. This CD is intended to be a bit of help in this endeavor. My influences range from the Orb, Aphex Twin, Bill Laswell, Hearts of Space, FSOL and DJ Spooky to composers such as Debussy, John Cage and Philip Glass. Only $10 |
